Lunch containers can have neat histories behind them!
The Tiffin:
Originally used to pack up a homemade meal for transport through the busy streets of Mumbai in India, the tiffin is made up of three stainless steel containers that stack together. A snap closure keeps contents secure while a handle makes carrying convenient. The lunches contain rice, curry, lentils, vegetables and chapatis (spicy meat).
The Bento:
Traditionally a boxed single serving take out or home packed meal of Japanese origin. The packed food is usually rice or noodles, fish or meat, and often comes with cooked and pickled vegetables. Each food item is kept separate from the others, especially if they have strong flavours, with dividers built into the box, or using green plastic grass. Bento is slang for "convenience".
